Medusa and Perseus after the Match

This artwork belongs to the series “We Art the Champions”, where I reimagine timeless myths through the lens of contemporary sport. In this piece, Medusa and Perseus are no longer enemies locked in a deadly struggle. Instead, they embrace after a volleyball match, transformed into symbols of peace, equality, and reconciliation.

The painting is created with stucco applied by palette knife to sculpt the illuminated parts of the figures, layered with acrylics and gesso on canvas. Against a vibrant fuchsia background with bold vertical stripes, the composition contrasts classical harmony with modern vitality.

Through the choice of subject and pose, I offer a contemporary reinterpretation of the famous Greek myth: Perseus does not slay Medusa, and Medusa does not attempt to destroy him. Instead, they meet in an act of love, proving that sport unites and transcends violence.

This work is both a hymn to peace and love and a firm stand against misogyny and femicide.

This acrylic, gesso and stucco painting on cotton canvas has painted edges and is signed on both front and back. It is ready to hang and comes with a Certificate of Authenticity. A double layer of matte varnish ensures protection against UV rays and long-term durability.
