Euterpe Plays the Violin

Euterpe Plays the Violin is part of my We ART the Champions series, where classical beauty meets contemporary visual rhythm. Inspired by Greek mythology, the work portrays Euterpe, daughter of Zeus and Mnemosyne, one of the Muses, guardian of inspiration and the arts, captured in a moment of focused, quiet performance.

Against a deep black background crossed by vertical yellow and sage-green stripes, the figure emerges as if carved from light. Using white stucco applied with a palette knife, I sculpt the illuminated areas of the Muse: her face and hands, the laurel crown, the violin and bow, and the draped garment. The textured relief evokes the presence of marble statuary while remaining unmistakably contemporary in its graphic contrasts.

The composition is intentionally elegant and suspended, inviting the viewer to “hear” the image, an almost silent melody suggested by posture, gesture, and the clean cadence of the vertical lines. It is an homage to discipline and grace: the kind of concentration that transforms technique into emotion.
